Answering Questions

We will ask you questions and provide a n insurance quotation based on your answers you give to us. You must answer all questions honestly and to the best of your knowledge. Your insurance quotation will be based on the answers you give and if you do not tell the truth, or if you mislead or omit important information then the premium may be wrong. This means that insurers might not pay a claim and you may also lose your premium. You might also have to pay compensation or be charged with fraud.

If you are in doubt about what to do, please phone the quotation helpline. Please note that this also applies to anyone else who will be covered under any policy. You must also answer questions about them honestly and to the best of your knowledge. You should check matters of fact with them to ensure accuracy.

To do this we will

  • Collect and collate your answers to questions.
  • Send these details to insurance companies and insurance brokers to provide you with quotes.
  • Provide you with quotes so you can decide which policy you want.
  • Provide you with an introduction to the Direct Insurers or Insurance Broker who will arrange the insurance with you.

Motor Insurance Database

Information relating to your insurance is added to the MID, which is managed by the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB). Tempcover uses its best endeavours to submit your policy and vehicle information as soon as our systems allow, and as a minimum, within the timescales required by the MID. The MID and the data stored on it may be used by certain statutory and/or authorised bodies including the Police, the DVLA, the DVANI, the Insurance Fraud Bureau and other bodies permitted by law for purposes not limited to but including:

    1. Electronic Licensing
    2. Continuous Insurance Enforcement;
    3. Law enforcement (prevention, detection, apprehension and or prosecution of offenders)
    4. The provision of government services and or other services aimed at reducing the level and incidence of uninsured driving.

If you are involved in a road traffic accident (either in the UK, the EEA or certain other territories), insurers and or the MIB may search the MID to obtain relevant information.

Persons (including his or her appointed representatives) pursuing a claim in respect of a road traffic accident (including citizens of other countries) may also obtain relevant information which is held on the MID.

It is vital that the MID holds your correct registration number. If it is incorrectly shown on the MID you are at risk of having your vehicle seized by the Police. You can check that your correct registration number details are shown on the MID at www.askmid.com.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

You may have a statutory right to cancel a policy you take out with us within a short period, known as the “cooling off period”. This will be explained on your policy summary of your policy document. If you cancel within your statutory cancellation period (where this applies) you will receive a pro rata refund of premium from the insurer. Insurers are also entitled to make an administration charge. In addition, we may keep an amount which reflects our administration costs of arranging and cancelling the policy of £15 per vehicle insurance policy. Our new business commission and arrangement fee made for arranging your insurance policy (where applicable) will not be refunded. If you make a claim on your policy and then it is cancelled, you may not be entitled to any refund (please see your individual insurer’s terms and conditions). You will also be liable for any outstanding payments to the credit provider if you have chosen to pay by direct debit.

If you wish to cancel outside of the statutory cancellation period (where this applies) you may not receive a pro rata refund of the premium. We may also keep an amount that reflects the administration costs and cancelling the policy of £50 per vehicle insurance policy. Our new business arrangement fee of £25, our initial commission, and any credit card handling charge made for arranging your insurance policy will not be refunded. If you pay your premium by instalments, and we do not receive or are unable to collect any payment by the due date, we will treat this as cancellation by you and any refund will be given directly to your finance provider. Any remaining balance after this has been given will be owed to the finance provider by you. In the event of your vehicle being declared a total loss, we will cancel the insurance. The full premium including Insurance Premium Tax will be due from you.

Any refund due will be paid to you less our initial commission, arrangement fee, and our cancellation charge (where applicable). If there are any outstanding monies due to us on your account, this will be deducted from the refund given by the insurer. Please note that if you are paying by direct debit through a credit provider, you will have to settle any outstanding balance with them. No refund will be allowed if there is an outstanding claim or a fault claim is made on your policy. Your insurer will require written evidence that you have insured your vehicle elsewhere to allow a pro rata refund. No refund is available if you device to cancel a Tools in transit policy, where this policy is sold without a vehicle insurance policy.
